Curiosities
• Gastronomy: Due its big coastline, the local cuisine is based on seafood. The traditional dishes are moqueca, caranguejada and the capixaba pie, a traditional Holy Week dish, made with seafood, including crab, oysters, shrimp, mussels, and sea bass. Espirito Santo citizens believe that an authentic capixaba moqueca (capixaba = from Espirito Santo) must be prepared in a clay pot, the experts insist. Espirito Santo’s main dish, it has some secrets, although its preparation is quite simple, calling only for good-quality fish steaks, olive oil, fresh coriander, onions and annatto. The final product is sensational.
• Miraculous Sand: Beyond its spectacular scenery of turquoise-blue sea, channels, straight lines of sand, inlets, mangrove, and sandbars; Guarapari is nationally famous its sand radioactivity therapeutic qualities. Due to many people testimonials of cure, the city becomes also known as “Cidade da Saúde” (Health City).
Trip Tips: If you like Brazilian music and enjoy dancing, Itaunas is the perfect place for you! Known for its natural beauties, the city gained fame because of the forro (popular dance in North-eastern of Brazil, as well as a type of music which accompanies the dance). It is there that every July the National Forro Festival is held, inviting the most excited for a good “hop”, and thus completing the visitors' excursion.
