Sao Jose do Rio Preto is a city and county in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil. County Area: 434.10 square km; population (2004): approx. 446,000.

The city was founded on March 19 1852, by Joao Bernardino de Seixas Ribeiro. It is the commercial, industrial, and agricultural center of the Northwestern region of the State. The city is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sao Jose do Rio Preto.

There are two football (soccer) clubs in the city: America and Rio Preto. America usually plays at Estadio Benedito Teixeira, which has a maximum capacity of 45,000 people. Rio Preto plays at Estadio Anisio Haddad, which has a maximum capacity of 30,000 people. There are lot of attractions at night, such as restaurants, bars, and clubs.

Rio Preto is a city with a high young population, with a busy night life.
