Barreirinhas is located just 3 hours from Sao Luis, the capital of Maranhão state, by bus. By single-engine plane Barreirinhas is only 50 minutes from Sao Luis. The advantage of this last transport is to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the lençóis (water tables).
Barreirinhas is considered the main gate to the Lençois Maranhenses Park, which consists of a large area of high, white sand dunes, lakes and lagoons, also known as Desert Brazil.
